Help Marcial from Holguín
His name is Marcial. He is 83 years old and lives in Holguín. When it rains, water floods his house… and mud touches his feet as he tries to sleep.
His house has no floor. Just wet earth.
When the rain falls heavily, Marcial retreats to a corner of his room and watches the water flow through his house… through the place that should actually be his home.
At 83, Marcial doesn't even have the most basic means to prepare a hot meal... or simply to boil water for a cup of coffee.
His monthly allowance of 1,543 Cuban pesos is barely enough to survive on.
And yet... Marcial doesn't give up.
With his old machete in hand, despite his age, he still goes out every day to do odd jobs for others. Maintaining gardens, heavy work… all for whatever someone can give him.
For his body is tired…
but his dignity is unbroken.
His house no longer looks like a home.
It feels like an open wound.
But the heart of Marcial...
The sea is worth more than any palace.
