“AmiMesa”: a table of friendship in Cuba

On Wednesday 10 June, Stichting Amistad con Cuba is launching a new initiative: AmiMesa.

AmiMesa literally means: “Friendship is served at the table.And that's exactly what this project is all about.

In a time when many Cuban families struggle daily to get enough healthy food on the table, we want to do something simple but powerful: bring people together around a warm meal.

More than just food

During the first edition of AmiMesa In Holguín, we invite around 30 to 40 people who are most in need of support. Together they share a healthy meal in an atmosphere of respect, friendship and togetherness.

Because a meal is more than just food.

It is a moment to forget your worries. To meet each other. To share stories. To experience that you are seen and that you are not alone.

AmiMesa is therefore not only about food, but also about human dignity, togetherness and hope.

A local initiative with big ambitions

The first AmiMesa is organised by our volunteers in Holguín. They take care of the preparation, the shopping, the cooking and the support of the participants.

If this first edition is successful, we hope AmiMesa to be expanded into a recurring initiative. Not only in Holguín, but also in other cities and regions of Cuba.

Our dream is simple:

Wherever people need help, a table of friendship should be able to emerge.

Transparent and close

As with all our projects, transparency is key.

At the end of the first AmiMesa Shall we publish photos, videos, and a report so that everyone can see what has been made possible with the support of our donors.

We believe that small contributions can make big differences.
